You know Christmas is coming when you see the return of York's seasonal outdoor ice rink. Located just outside the Castle Museum in the Eye of York, the rink has been labelled as the "Ice Factor". Wonder where they got that idea from?

Anyway - what is a fantastic seasonal treat for York residents and visitors alike is now under threat. Despite enjoying their 5th year in the Eye of York - a suitably festive location - the attraction has been threatened with eviction from the area due to the proximity of York Law Courts. The courts have objected to the noise and distraction the rink apparently causes and have complained to the landlord, York City Council.

Given that the Eye of York is home to two other very popular York attractions (Clifford's Tower and The Castle Museum) and a busy car park frequented by shoppers,  one wonders why the officials at the courts have not seen fit to complain previously about the veritable rabble of tourists disturbing their proceedings. The words Bah and Humbug seem apt.

The promoters, spurred on by local support have launched a campaign to try to keep the event at the Eye of York. Failing this the rink may move to the Museum Gardens next year, according to the promotor's website.
