A. Milton said on 15 March 2010:
Firstly, be aware that the star rating is not an official AA star rating. I've spoken to the AA and this hotel has been dropped by them and so has NO star rating. Having stayed there for one sleepless night in an uncomfortable bed, with torn sheets, with a thin duvet so I was freezing, and loud traffic noise through the window, plus the noise of other guests through the walls, no shaver socket, and only a trickle from the shower in the morning, I can see why. The hotel shamelessly announced they'd already taken the money for my second night - £160 - and refused to refund it even though we told them we could not stay there for another sleepless night. We had actually travelled up for my father in laws and his brother's funerals, taking place on the same day, and my husband was already distraught and exhausted, let alone finding himself spending the night in what resembled a brothel, but the staff couldn't have cared less. The decor comprises black nylon carpets, black window frames, black doors, a tacky unrefurbished bathroom, and as we were in premier rooms, delightful black chiffon swathed around the posts of the four poster bed. My son was embarrased by a picture of a woman in her bra adorning the wall, and my husband was devastated to be spending the night before his father's and uncle's funerals in what appeared to be a bordello. We had to relinquish the money they'd taken and booked into the Marriot for the next night, where they even let us book for an extra night in case we were too tired to drive back home, and then let us cancel that extra night with NO Charge. The Noir, by comparison, runs itself and looks like, a criminal outfit.
